Dear friends in Christ:
One week ago on Saturday morning I celebrated a last public Mass. Since then I have offered a private Mass each day, and my Mass intentions have been for the parish family and for the safety of medical and public health workers.
There have been funeral Masses this week and we have been hearing confessions. But next week Funeral Masses will fall under the suspension order. (Limiting attendance to next of kin proved impossible.) For the duration of the pandemic we will conduct graveside committal services, and schedule memorial Masses when it is again possible for families to attend. Visits to those who are shut-in at home have been suspended but viaticum is always available to the gravely sick and dying.
I brought the sacraments to parishioner Donald Smith at Good Samaritan Hospital on Thursday but the staff announced no visitors at all beginning the next day. Don is recovering from the effects of a fall at home and some complications. Please keep him in your prayers.
Saturday’s Mass is a year’s-mind Mass for parishioner Leslie Hunt. May he rest in peace.
