During the year we have many special liturgies and events. Here are some from 2018.
Scott Hahn spoke in Lynn on Saturday, September 15th
Some of us went to hear Dr Scott Hahn speak at St. Mary’s Church in Lynn, Mass. He taught on the Creed, the Sacraments, and the New Evangelization. Corrine was able to chat with Scott Hahn and even have a picture taken with him. She said, “Surely he is a man who uses the talents he has been given.”
Feast of St Gregory the Great, Monday, September 3rd
During the Solemn High Mass honoring our Patron celebrated at Saint Lawrence Church at ten in the morning Father Bradford delivered the sermon on St. Gregory the Great.
We were honored by the presence of this community’s old friend transitional Deacon Brian O’Hanlon serving in that role with our own Steven Hardy serving as Subdeacon, as well as old friend David Allen serving as Crucifer and Acolyte.
This was the sixth celebration of the Feast of Title for the Saint Gregory the Great Community.
After Mass we went to Brio Tuscan Restaurant for a festive lunch.
Organ Recital at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall
On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, a group of us went to hear organist Dong-Ill Shin perform a recital on The Great Organ at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall. What an amazing experience – especially for those of us who had never heard a pipe organ before. Thanks to our organist, Jim Reedy, who made the suggestion!
Lowell Spinners Baseball Game, Tuesday, August 7th
Several of us went to see the Lowell Spinners take on the Vermont Lake Monsters, both Class A minor league teams. We first went for a bite to eat and then went to the game at LaLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. We had a great time even if the rain and thunder and lightning didn’t hold off for the game. While the rain stopped the game, it didn’t stop us from having a great time!
Special Screening of Summer in the Forest, Thursday, July 12th
Seven of us attended a screening of Summer in the Forest, a documentary about the Catholic Apostolate, the L’Arche Community. The film narrated by founder, jean Vanier, was shown at the AMC Loews theater in Methuen.
L’Arche is an international community whose core members are adult men and women both with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. The community is united in the Beatitudes. There was a question and answer period about the L’Artche Boston North Community after the screening.
Catholic Night at Fenway Park, Tuesday, July 10th
Eight of us met at Fenway Park to watch the beloved Red Sox take on the Texas Rangers. We joined with other parishes for the Boston Red Sox fifth annual Catholic Night. It was a fun evening despite the hot humid weather.
Work day at St. Lawrence Church
Fr. Gaspar, the new pastor of St Lawrence Church, invited both communities of St Gregory the Great and St Athanasius to assist our host church in some much needed yard work on Saturday morning, June 23rd. Six of us joined together with St Mary’s and St Lawrence as well as the seminarians next door and then enjoyed a appetizing cookout together.
Here are some photos of parishioners, Rachel and Marco, working hard on yard work:
